BUNKER GEAR

BUNKER GEAR - American Safety Associates Semi-Custom

Semi-Custom

Your fire department can select the fabric, trim, options for the bunker gear to protect their firefighters. Our specialty is to provide firefighters with gear that fits properly and options that make their gear work for them. American Safety Associates of Colorado has dedicated 32 years to serving firefighters with a personal touch. Generally, firefighters are measured and the gear is ordered and created to provide a semi-custom fit.

Stock / Off the Shelf

Some manufacturers/distributors offer Stock or Off the Shelf gear. However, to provide gear that matches the gear you currently specify may not be available immediately. Additionally, not all sizes are likely to be stocked with the needed fabrics, trim and styles of gear. To assure our customers receive gear that mostly closely matches their needs, we choose not to stock gear.

Styles

1500 Shorter coat
Designed with protection and fit, the 1500 coat comes with Cargo Pockets, trim, wristlets of your choice. Coat length can be 30" or 32" depending upon the firefighter's needs.

Traditional Coat
Designed with protection and fit, the traditional coat comes with 35" length to protect the taller firefigthers and provide easier reach into pockets.

Features / Benefits

  • Shoulder Padding:
  • Your choice of fabrics, thermal linings, trim, front closure, wristlet style and so much more
  • Better fit for firefighters that aren't a stock size
  • Semi-custom fit increases the comfort and ease of working in gear

Traditional Pants
Our pants are designed with fewer seams for fewer repairs and with extra thermal and moisture barrier in the fly for more protection. Cargo pockets with drains and flaps provide a lot of storage for important tools or supplies. The knees come with double quilted knees (and a layer of moisture barrier) in addition to the selected cover material.

8 point suspender buttons backed with leather provide a strong and stable support for suspenders. Two-adjustable straps make waist adjustments a snap. American Safety provides, semi-custom fit, to accommodate various body shapes. We often hear that our gear is the first gear that fits an individual firefighter right (if they aren't a stock size, especially.)

You may add a host of other options - it is up to you and your firefighters' needs. Hip pockets, an extra quilt layers in the knee on the liner, partitioned pockets, additional pockets are options that can be included.

Care:
Keep your gear in good condition by washing the shell and liner separately. Make sure the velcro is closed. Let your gear air dry when possible.

Note:It is important to remove the new Drag Harness (also called DRD - Drag Rescue Device) when washing your coat.

Longevity vs. Price There are a number of considerations when deciding upon shell fabric, moisture barrier, and thermal liners that will ultimately impact longevitiy and price.

The goal is to find a reasonable balance, Carol Neal of American Safety Associates of Colorado performs repairs on a limited number of items each year and sees firsthand what fabrics last better.

Color Choice Considerations: Fabrics have varying compositions and some hold their color better than others. Some fabrics don't hold dyes well and therefore are offered only in a limited range of colors.

Fabrics that have a dye added to the fiber may experience color changes when exposed to high temperatures or UV for extended timeframes. An important consideration when weighing budget, fabric strength, appearance and overall performance.

Service: Our customers are important to us and with 31 years of experience, we are skilled at measuring firefighters and determining the gear sizing that will accommodate all ranges of body types and sizes.

Our customers also deserve to know that whenever possible, we share a concern for their safety, comfort and protection - in the early years, we fought the status quo to make knee pads a standard and then we doubled the quilt because we felt so strongly about the benefits.
